First off, the definitions

a) Infinite Authors is part of Infinite Ideas Ltd, 36 St Giles, Oxford OX1 3LD. Company number: 4784500.

b) The 'Customer' means the author – you – contracting services from Infinite Authors. Pretty obvious really. Sorry

Privacy and security

Infinite Authors uses encryption technology to keep your personal information safe. Credit card transactions are handled by SecPay. SecPay is tried and trusted and responsible for millions of safe internet transactions daily. That's all you need to know really.

Of course if you'd rather give your order details over the phone we will happily accept them.

All contact details are kept strictly confidential. We won't pass on information about you to anyone without your express agreement. Only staff members at Infinite Authors will be able to access your personal details and they are well versed in the company's privacy policy. While 100% internet security is impossible to guarantee, please rest assured that we at Infinite Authors will do everything in our power to keep you safe online.

What we collect

We may ask of and collect from you the following information:

• Your name;
• Contact information including your email address;
• Demographic information such as postcode, preferences and interests;
• Your inside leg measurement (just kidding);
• Your favourite vegetable (sorry this is getting very silly but it does relieve the tedium of writing this stuff – this isn't all about you, you know);
• Other information relevant to customer surveys and/or offers.

If we ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified when using this website, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.

What we do with the information we gather

We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons:

• Internal record keeping;
• To improve our products and services;
• To contact you about new products, special offers or other information which we think you may find interesting;
• To contact you for market research purposes.

We may contact you by email, phone, fax or mail. We may use the information to customise the website according to your interests.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer's hard drive. It's terribly polite like that. Once you agree the file is added and the cookie helps analyse web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site. Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. Every effort is made to keep the website up and running smoothly. However, Infinite Authors takes no responsibility for, and will not be liable for, the website being temporarily unavailable due to technical issues beyond our control.

In no event will we be liable for any loss or damage including without limitation, indirect or consequential loss or damage, or any loss or damage whatsoever arising from loss of data or profits arising out of, or in connection with, the use of this website. So, that's you told.

What you need to promise us

You're also responsible for ensuring that you adhere to all local and national laws that are relevant wherever you are based.

No content on the Infinite Authors site can be used by a third party without our express permission. This includes any free content we post, design templates and general advice to authors. To do so would be a breach of our copyright. Sorry if that sounds heavy, but you know it makes sense.

Our agreement with you

You are entirely in control of your own intellectual property. You are the publisher and we will not enter in to any agreement on your behalf with any third party unless you ask us to do so. If you require an ISBN from us then that ISBN will register you at Nielsen as the publisher of the work.

We don't want to appear censorious by nature but we do have to protect ourselves from the extreme views of some nasty people out there so you also warrant to Infinite Authors and to our assigns and licensees that the book you use our services to publish is an original Work, has not been published in volume form anywhere in the world, that it is in no way whatever a violation of any existing copyright, or of any right of privacy, or other personal, proprietary or statutory right, that it contains nothing obscene, libellous or defamatory or otherwise unlawful, that all statements contained therein purporting to be fact are to the best of your knowledge and belief true, and that you have full power to enter into this agreement and will indemnify Infinite Authors against any loss, injury or damage (including any legal costs or expenses and any compensation costs and disbursements paid by us in accordance with legal advice to compromise or settle any claim) occasioned to us in consequence of any claim alleging that the book contains any infringement of copyright or anything of a libellous character or otherwise occasioned to Infinite Authors in consequence of any breach of this warranty. So don't try to pass off Northanger Abbey as your own work please.

Anything that is posted on our site that is libellous, racially or sexually offensive, harassing, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, illegal – you get the picture, will be removed immediately at the entire discretion of Infinite Authors. Should this be necessary and should funds already have been transmitted to Infinite Authors a full refund minus a 25% handling charge will be made to the author. Where content is judged by Infinite Authors to be illegal we will report it to the appropriate authorities. We know this won't apply to you as you're a lovely person.

If you are using content owned by another party you agree to obtain at your own expense written permission to use any copyright material including illustrations for which permission is required. You agree to supply us with copies of all correspondence related to permissions if we ask you for it.

Any additional services you have requested from us (including proofreading, copy editing, design, indexing and typesetting) will be deemed to have been delivered by Infinite Authors when you sign off the final proofs of your work. Any subsequent changes you require will be chargeable and we will quote you for these when so required.

All prices quoted by Infinite Authors to you will be valid for three months only from the date they are given. All online prices quoted will not include costs for typesetting non-standard text such as foreign languages, scientific formulae etc. These we may need to quote for separately.

Manuscripts should be uploaded in the formats specified on our site. If you use a format that we can't work with we will provide a separate quote.

Work on your manuscript can only begin when payment, to the schedule as outlined on our site, has been received by the Infinite Authors.

Infinite Authors shall not be held responsible for any accidental loss or damage to your work, including illustrations and other material, by fire or otherwise, while it is in our custody, in transit or in the course of production other than loss or damage arising from our own negligence.

Infinite Authors will be under no liability if it is unable to carry out any part of this agreement for any reason beyond its control. This includes the usual force majeure stuff such as Acts of God, legislation, war, fire, flood, drought, strikes, plagues of locusts and outbreaks of boils upon either the author or senior management at Infinite Authors. In the unlikely event of any one of these things conspiring to muck up delivery of your book, we'll tell you what's happening and sort it out with you in a friendly manner. We can't really say fairer than that.

Should we fall out with you over anything (we're sure we won't) our agreement with you will be governed and construed under the laws of England.

We may change or policies from time to time by updating this page. You should check this page from time to time to ensure that you are happy with any changes. This policy is effective from February 2011.
